An extra pair of eyes before you sign the agency quote.
I'm an independent technical advisor focused on Shopify Plus
Why independent
Three reasons clients pay for outside scoping.
Independent of any one agency
I work alongside several of the major enterprise delivery agencies, but I'm not owned by any of them. The agency I route you to is the one I'd actually pick for your project.
Ex–Shopify Plus, currently on the outside
I spent years inside Shopify Plus working with the merchants who push the platform hardest. I've watched a lot of delivery quotes from both sides of the table.
Fixed scope, fixed price
Every engagement has a written scope, a written price, and a written exit. No timesheets, no scope creep, no surprise invoices.
The practice
Three threads, one practice.
Consulting is the foundation. Learning, writing, and small dev projects along with hands-on configuration allow me to bring real-world experience to the consulting approach.
Selected work
Anonymised advisory engagements.
All case studies are architecture-advice engagements — shape and size only. Industry, specific tech, and delivery outcomes are intentionally omitted.
Philosophy
A point of view on tools, platforms, and AI.
Independent advice only works if there's a point of view behind it. Here's mine, in three lines.
Small over clever.
A query beats a small extension. A small extension beats a custom app. A custom app beats a platform. Most of the time, doing nothing beats doing something. The best technology decision is usually the smallest one that holds.
AI as something emerging.
Most AI consulting is tactical — what to automate, which tool to plug in. My posture is different: AI is an emergent phenomenon worth tracking and looking inside, and the most interesting layer is the relationship between AI and the humans working with it. That's the strategic question I'm useful on, in parallel with shipping the narrowly-scoped tactical pieces when they earn their keep.
Independence over alignment.
I'd rather lose the build than help a client pick the wrong platform. If a problem doesn't need me — or doesn't need the tool you think it needs — I say so before we sign.
Recommendations
From people I've shipped with.
Verbatim from LinkedIn recommendations — longer ones lightly trimmed; full text on LinkedIn.
“Faheem's superpower is breaking down complex issues into bite-sized, easy-to-digest components — doing deep discovery and applying consultative, collaborative techniques to then deliver truly consultative solutions and recommendations. One of the most empathetic and creative people I have ever come across in a professional setting.”
“He possesses a unique blend of technical acumen, self-awareness and emotional intelligence, enabling him to not only excel in SE work but also cultivate meaningful team culture and partnerships. His deep care for Shopify's products is evident in his commitment to thoughtful and customized solutions for our European enterprise.”
“Faheem persistently demonstrated a strong knowledge of our products and industry. He excelled in designing tailored solutions to address the most complex customer needs. With absolute sincerity, I advocate for Faheem in any role related to solution engineering or technological leadership.”
“What's special about Faheem is his ability to understand the complex and build a level of trust in most scenarios. At Shopify he was dealing with some of our most complex opportunities and he navigated that level of ambiguity in his stride.”
